The construction of ZELTIC SNIPE starts with a set of moulds.
The quality and the construction of these moulds is the first of many steps towards a great boat. If the moulds are not perfect, the boat will never be right.
To be perfect, the moulds need to be designed from zero, as we have made it in SAIL JRC. However, most Snipe builders have taken shortcuts as, essentially copying a boat already existing, rather than engineering it. This is a real problem, because fiberglass boats shrink; this is even worse when "copied" moulds are used because these also shrink, doubling the problem.
When the moulds are designed and built with the adequate design specifications, you’ll get impeccable moulds so that the boat members fit properly.
SAIL JRC has began from zero, using engineering software in the design of the model, and translating this into the numerical control technology, to guarantee the symmetry of forms.
Using vinilester gel coats and resins in the construction of the SAIL JRC’s moulds contributes towards increasing their stability. At last, the finished units are placed in an oven for heating, at a constant temperature of 22º C during 14 days. This process guarantees once more the stability of shapes.
Through a vacuum technique we achieve to eliminate any bubble or air pocket in decks and hulls.
On the other hand, we have special attention when assembling parts, to the position of the mast and to its alignment with daggerboard and rudder.
We have introduced several innovations to improve the ergonomics and the accessibility of the maneuver, such as: halyard re sent on the cockpit both sides; mobile jib tracks with balls track, adjustable bow/stern and in/out; regulation of the bow…
This way, we get a totally symmetrical boat with some absolutely purified lines.
We put great attention to the manpower, with special care to the details. All these quality controls make our production be limited to 20 UNITS A YEAR. It is important for us to build high quality boats, although that means to build a smaller amount.
